Affordable housing developments have been built in Bellingham , Blaine , Ferndale , Lynden and Sumas. The family-oriented developments have playgrounds, all of the developments are near bus routes. Some of the apartment developments have inviting community spaces which may include computer rooms, a community library, a shared fireside room, and exercise facilities.

Once a person or family qualifies to rent a tax-credit or bond-financed affordable apartment, they must sign a rental agreement of at least six months. Each year they also must submit financial information to prove that they still qualify for this housing program. Often housing is readily available.
