Low Income Public Housing (LIPH)

Public housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Public housing comes in all sizes and types, from scattered single family houses to high rise apartments for elderly families. The Bellingham and Whatcom County Housing Authorities own and operate apartment complexes in the cities of Bellingham , Blaine , Everson, Sumas and in the unincorporated county. These complexes are well-maintained and include security doors and cameras. All are near bus routes.

A Resident Services Coordinator goes to each senior housing site to help coordinate any extra services residents may need such as meal delivery or housekeeping assistance. The Housing Authority works with other agencies to get residents the help they need, so they can live independently as long as possible.
