Sumas Square Elevation & Rehabilitation

Sumas Square Apartments, which had provided affordable housing to seniors for nearly 30 years, was severely damaged by flooding in 2021. Located in a remote area of Whatcom County near the Canadian border, the property was vacated and residents were permanently relocated. Since then, BWCHA has been working to secure funds to bring the site back online.

Project Status (as of May 2025):
BWCHA has secured the funding needed to elevate and rehabilitate the site, with construction anticipated to begin soon.
